A busy weekend…

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Wow… what a great weekend.  Saturday, we watched daughter Nellie and niece Annie Bley compete in the Door County Half Marathon.  With nearly 1500 runners (with an additional 500 who ran the 5K), Peninsula State Park hosted thousands of people on Saturday.  The race is run extremely well with runners and spectators shuttled in via the Door County Trolley or school buses from Gibraltar school from either the school or the Skyway Drive-In.  We got there early and were able to park in the park so to speak.  My ankle is still in a cast from my surgery for a torn tendon.  We brought along a non-motorized scooter that I knelt my bad leg on and pushed with my good leg.  I felt like I ran the marathon after pushing myself along miles of trails.  Annie finished 7th overall of the women.  She runs cross county for the UWGB. Not too shabby Annie!  Nellie did great too… she never walked and finished in just over two hours in addition to raising $2000 dollars for her non profit, the American Folklore Theatre!  Congrats girls!

We were in one of the most beautiful parks on the planet and I get the porta potties in the picture…

That evening we headed down to the Draft Haus in Sturgeon Bay.  Mark and our good friend Tom were inducted into the Door County Baseball League Hall of Fame.  No, there isn’t an actual building but there are tons of memories and stories to be shared at this event. Our whole family was there…

My pal and Ephraim’s most famous resident, Scotty Weborg was there too…

The place was packed and we had a great time.  Congrats to Mark and Tom and all the inductees.

On Mother’s Day, we watched the Egg Harbor Indians beat Washington Island.  It was sunny, my family was there and our baseball park now has indoor plumbing… aka a bathroom, so it was a good day.  Family and friends came over for fried chicken afterward and all was good with the world.

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.

Feed the Fish wins award…

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

According to the Peninsula Pulse

Feed the Fish Earns Best of Midwest Nod

Feed the Fish, the movie filmed primarily in Door County in the winter of 2009, was honored as Best Picture at last night’s “Best of the Midwest” awards, hosted by the Midwest Independent Film Festival in Chicago.

“I’m so happy about that,” Director Michael Matzdorff said. “It’s an audience award, and the audience loved it.”

Matzdorff’s independent film will be shown at the Sturgeon Bay Cinema 6 from Dec. 31 – Jan. 6. Not long after that, Door County residents will be able to catch their hometown on DVD when it’s released on both DVD and Video On Demand on Jan. 25, 2011.

“We wanted to bring it back to Door County one more time because a lot of people said they missed it or wanted to see it again,” Matzdorff said. “With all the Polar Bear plunge folks coming up we figured that would be a great time to show it.”
