While Egg Harbor Lodge is primarily an adult resort, there are still tons of things for families to do. My sister-in-law Sara (Yes, there are two Sara(h) Sawyers and both in Egg Harbor no less) and I took her two kids Sam and Lilly and my granddaughter Adison to The Farm on Wednesday. I hadn’t been there in years, but when our kids were little we went all the time. The kids can feed baby animals, see chicks hatching and watch the geese swim in the pond. There are huge cows with giant horns, rabbits and turkeys. There is a working windmill and historic outbuildings. The Farm is really clean (a huge bonus) and there is even a tractor to climb on. The kids can try to get water out of a hand pump or climb up the old lime kiln. Next time we go, we are going to bring a picnic lunch and eat at one of the picnic tables outside. I brought Adi’s stroller and pushed her all over. She even fed a goat milk… I was afraid she might drink the bottle… she didn’t.

This morning, the crew headed up to Good Eggs in Ephraim to check out their breakfast burritos… they all agreed they were excellent. They returned to Egg Harbor to check out Main Street Market and Door County Nature Works owned by our good friends Kaaren and Steve Northrop and Polly and Don Helm respectively. At noon they came back to Egg Harbor Lodge and interviewed Mark and me. We also did a segment on our hot cider that we make in the fall for our guests. The weather was really nice which I was really excited about. After they left our place they headed up to Seaquist Orchard. I am not sure just yet when the Door County show will air… I will keep you posted. I will get a copy and post it on my website. It was nice to get little Egg Harbor some press!

Last March, I was fortunate to get the opportunity to be on the “Living with Amy” show (it was LIVE!!) and cook with her. We had a blast… she said she wanted to have me on again. I hope so, it was one of the highlights of the spring for me and I have tons of good fall recipes, maybe she would like my Coq Au Vin! Yeah, that sounds good, think I’ll make it this week.

My new favorite place for a great sub sandwich is in the Mobil Station in Sister Bay (again, no website… people you need a website). Yes, that’s right, good food in a gas station. Sub Express and Pizza Prima! are located in Sister Bay in front of the new Pamida store (the former Krist’s grocery store). The gas station/restaurant is really clean and there are either tables or a high bar table located by the big front window with stools to sit if you decide to dine in which is what we did. Pick up a menu slip fill out everything you would like on your sub and hand it to the sub-maker. I love Subway but this is way better. I haven’t tried their homemade pizza but everyone says it is also very good. In addition to subs and pizza they also do fried baskets, appetizers, chili and even some entrees. It would be a perfect place to pick up lunch and head out for a picnic. So if you’re hungry and tempted to buy one of those greasy hot dogs rolling around on a machine at some gas station, get your gas and lunch at the Sister Bay Mobil instead… you won’t be disappointed.
