Ready, Set, Don’t go…

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Saturday, we will take the youngest of our four kids off to college.  He has decided on UW-Stevens Point but has not yet declared a major.  Tonight,  we had had his favorite dinner… tacos (of all things!), and all of our family came for dinner.   We are all excited for him but at the same time, we will miss him terribly, but it is time for him to leave Door County and little Egg Harbor and set his sights on bigger and better things.    Watch out college… here comes Joe!

I love this song by Billy Ray Cyrus… it  is exactly how I am feeling right now…

He’s gotta do what he’s gotta do
And I’ve gotta like it or not
He’s got dreams too big for this town
And he needs to give ‘em a shot
Whatever they are

Looks like he’s all ready to leave
Nothing left to pack
There ain’t no room for me in that car
Even if he asked me to tag along
God I gotta be strong

He’s at the startin’ line of the rest of his life
As ready as he’s ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in his eyes
The prize is his to win
He’s waitin’ on our blessings before he hits that open road
Baby get ready
Get set
Don’t go

He says things are fallen into place
Feels like they’re fallen apart
I painted this big ol’ smile on my face
To hide my broken heart
If only he knew
This is where I don’t say what I want so bad to say

This is where I want to but I won’t get in the way
Of him and his dreams
And spreadin’ his wings

He’s at the startin’ line of the rest of his life
As ready as he’s ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in his eyes
The prize is his to win
He’s waitin’ on our blessings before he hits that open road
Baby get ready
Get set
Don’t go

Joe, we know you will do just fine… we will miss you so much, but in a good way… and please sweetheart , don’t forget to change your sheets and wash your underwear.

Love always,

Mom + Dad

Door County Sunset

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

It was cold and windy yesterday, but the weather broke soon enough for there to be the most beautiful sunset at Egg Harbor Lodge

We never get tired of the sunsets…

Door County Road Trip

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

We took Tuesday afternoon off and went with our friends Bill and Kathy on an afternoon road trip to some of my favorite outdoor places… Mark was the DD and the weather was beautiful… it was too fun.

On a tip from the waiter at The Top Deck Lounge on North Bay in Baileys Harbor, we  decided to drop in at the Sugar Shack, an outdoor Tiki bar located between JJ’s and the Waterfront in Sister Bay.  NHL left-winger Ruslan Fedontenko who plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins was showing off the Stanley Cup Trophy.  The players on the team who win the prized trophy each get 24 hours to do whatever they would like with the trophy.  Fedontenko, who owns a condo in Sister Bay decided to celebrate his prized 24 hours right here in DC!  He ate ice cream out of it at Wilson’s, took it on a go-kart ride at Johnson’s Park and drank margaritas out of it at JJ’s.  We caught up to him at the Tiki Bar… pretty cool.   Check it out on the video…

The tapas at the Mission Grille were phenomenal… we ended up the night with a Door County sunset at Egg Harbor Lodge

The end of a perfect day!

Door County’s newest webcam… Egg Harbor Lodge Sunset Cam

Monday, August 17th, 2009

We have installed a live webcam at Egg Harbor Lodge so guests can check out the sunsets even when they are not here… check it out on the eggharborlodge.com  homepage.  There is a filter on the camera so in the day it may seem darker than normal but otherwise the sunsets would be just too bright.  It is too cool, I love it.

Bridge trouble…

bridge fiasco

Check this out… apparently, the bridge tender didn’t see this car when he opened the Maple to Oregon Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay a couple days ago…

No one was hurt, luckily.
