Waiting for baby

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Door County runs at an extremely slow pace in the winter… something I think all Door Countyites cherish.  While we all are waiting patiently  for spring, Mark and I are waiting for our first grandchild to be born.  Carissa and Josh are expecting a baby girl in the middle of March and we are all super excited.  Nellie, Emilie and I had a baby shower for Carissa on Sunday.  She got really beautiful things… lots of pink.  Sure hope that sonogram is correct.

My girls and me

My friend Kim from Pink Bakery in Egg Harbor made the croissants for the chicken salad and the cutest cupcakes I have ever seen!  There were four different flavors including chocolate ganache with red rasberry frosting and cherry almond with a buttercream frosting. They were all really delish and a big hit with all the girls.

Pink Bakery Cupcakes

I made Sangria and pink lemonade and a tarragon chicken salad that I tried to copy from the Door County Bakery who makes the absolute best.  I think it was the loudest shower I have ever been… between my own daughters, their friends and my nieces, there were a lot of laughs.  I think everyone had a really nice time.  I know I did!  I loved all the little pink things for the baby.  Egg Harbor will have a new little resident in just a few weeks.  Stay tuned.

Door County in Winter

It is freezing outside, but all the snowmobile trails are open in Door County.  The cross-country ski trails in Peninsula State Park are in excellent condition. Both state parks (Peninsula and Whitefish Dunes) have snowshoe trails which I am going to check out as soon as the weather breaks.  We bought our grandson Jaden some snowshoes for Christmas and I thought it looked like fun with the benefits of exercise to boot.

My family and friends threw me a huge party last weekend at Mr. G’s Logan Creek Grill for my let’s just call it a “milestone” birthday .  Wow, was I surprised… they even had a band.  It was really nice. I plan on celebrating my birthday all year long… just like Oprah.  And to all my gag-gifter pals… remember, paybacks are hell!

Happy New Year!

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Yesterday was the 32nd Annual Egg Harbor New Year’s Day Parade.  The first year, our friend Darrel Lautenbach rode through the village on a horse.  By the third year, the parade had a decent sized audience who then retreated into Mark’s parents tavern The Midtown Tap (now Mojo Rosa’s) after the parade.  Mark’s mom would make a venison stew and homemade bread for all the patrons.  Within a few years, parade grew larger and so did the crowd watching it. There were hundreds watching yesterday.  Of course we were in the parade.  Check out our You Tube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNHcN02-Ns8

Our signs read POLAR BEAR PLUNGE… EGG HARBOR LODGE STYLE!

What a fun day…
