Nellie and our friend Bryan went to see Eli last night at Southern Door High School.  He was doing the last of three concerts to benefit the school’s music program and also the Wellness Center in Sturgeon Bay where his mom works.  Someone said Sony signed him but that could be a Door County rumor. 

 It’s pretty cool this guy is doing benefit concerts his first week home.  By the way, all three concerts sold out in a short amount of time.  Nellie said he was excellent and played tons of great songs. 

Tonight we have our Ultimate Pumpkin Carving night.  I don’t think I will be doing any of the political faces for our pumpkins, no just the regular old scary Halloween type.  I passed this abandoned house yesterday near Kangaroo Lake.  It always amazes me how houses get abandoned in the first place.  At one time this must have been a grand farmhouse… it still has some of it’s gingerbread on the front door.  Anyway it reminded me of Halloween although it looks more sad than scary.  We are still open this weekend so my trick-or-treaters will have to come to Egg Harbor Lodge if they want any candy.  I give out the good stuff so I am sure I will be seeing the regulars. Check back tomorrow and see the results of our contest.

No, the carpet has not been rolled up just yet.  There are tons of things going on in the county through the holiday season.  This weekend alone there is the Fall 50 which already has its maximum participants.  It is an ultra marathon which can be done individually or in teams  up to 5 people.  Mary Junion who works the Egg Harbor Lodge front desk has family running in the race on Saturday. 

There is also the Ellison Bay Art Crawl which apparently is a treasure hunt and a party wrapped in one.

The Chris Aaron Band and Eli Mattson are both performing in Sturgeon Bay.  It will be a welcome home party for Eli after being 1st runner up in NBC’s America’s Got Talent. He will be performing at the Ladder House which is being sponsored by Door County’s newest radio station 106.9 The Lodge.  I bet just tons of people show up.  Should be a good time.

Last night the members of the Door County Visitors Bureau got together for a casual informational meeting with drinks and hors d’oeuvres at the Gorden Lodge Events Center.  The food was excellent and the new facility looks fantastic.  People wonder if we do weddings (we don’t) but brides… check out this place- it would be perfect for a wedding. 

 Mark and I like to stop for cocktails at the Top Deck which is located on the same property.  It is one of the few restaurants on the water.  There is a big bar with windows on three sides overlooking North Bay.  It is kind of out of the way but well worth the beautiful drive. We saw a buck standing next to their sign when we pulled in.

We saw tons of people we knew at the get together and the mood was really high (no pun intended).  The new direction the DCVB is taking looks promising and everyone is pretty excited.  Most business owners talked of having a good year despite the gloom and doom in the media.  I think everyone is thankful and excited for the future of Door County.
